Equestrian and the future: Horse Sports, The Public and the Equestrian Federation of Australia The Australian public has always adopted horses as part of its' colonial heritage and sporting image. Even in today's modern world, the horse still captivates an audience - as was seen in the first segment of the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, when hundreds of great Australian riders galloped into the stadium. From the outback to the city, horse sports appeal to all walks of life and all ages. The EFA (Equestrian Federation of Australia) is the governing body for horse sports in Australia and is affiliated with the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). Established for over 50 years, it has a membership in excess of 15,000 (with close to 5,000 situated in New South Wales) competing in a variety of official competitions, including:
